IMPACTS of Bipolar Diorder

I think that the biggest impact for Bipolar Disorder is on their family and friends, not them so much. First off, if you were to get in an argument, it would be worse than usual because it would be so extreme. Another thing would be if the were to become a drug addict or an alcoholic, that could tear up their family too.

Ethical Issues

For starters, Bipolar people are constantly suicidal (sometimes even if they're taking their medication), which in itself is a problem. Another issue is if they are depressed, they'll try and treat themselves, using unprescribed prescription drugs, illegal drugs, or turn to alcohol. Also, it can be difficult finding a job, because your boss might think that you could freak out at scream at a potential client/customer.

Treatment for BIPOLAR DISORDER

The usual treatment for Bipolar would be life-long therapy and mood stabilizing medication like Lithium, Carbamazepine, or Divalproex/Valproic acid.

What are the genetic causes of BIPOLAR DISORDER?

The genetic causes of Bipolar Disorder are unknown, but they seem to be linked/similar to that of major Depression. 80%-90% of Bipolar patients have a family history of bipolar disorder. If you DO have a family history, it does not necessarily mean that you will have Bipolar Disorder.

What is Bipolar Disorder?

Bipolar Disorder (sometimes known as manic-depressive disorder) is a genetic disease when you have violent mood swings for mania (extreme joy) to depression (extreme sadness). There is no telling how fast or slow these changes can occur. People are usually diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder from ages 15-25.
